Head chef David Heimer considers himself lucky. His life could have ended in a parachuting accident in Spain on a May day in 2023 when he collided with a power line and fell 10–12 metres to the ground. Once he landed, his burning parachute fell over him. Fortunately, a pair of hikers witnessed the accident and were able to call for help. A rescue helicopter training nearby, arrived within five minutes. Additionally, the hospital he was flown to had extensive experience in treating burn injuries. If the hikers hadn’t been there, the helicopter hadn’t been nearby, or the hospital hadn’t had that expertise, he likely wouldn’t have stood a chance of surviving.

Fourteen-year-old Elliot Adelöw was seriously injured in a skiing accident on a January evening in 2025. Although he was wearing a helmet, he hit his head so hard that he fell into a coma and suffered extensive brain hemorrhages. The progress is slow but meaningful – and the family fights every day for Elliot to get better, even though no one knows how far his recovery will go. / Göteborgs-Posten

After three years of Russia’s full-scale invasion, war fatigue is widespread in Ukraine. Few, however, are willing to sign a peace agreement that risks the war flaring up again in the future. In Pokrovsk, a heavily targeted town in Donbass, Svjat is fighting. He fears that even his children and grandchildren will have to fight this war if they do not manage to win or establish a lasting peace. The portraits show just a few of the Ukrainian soldiers whose everyday lives are defined by war. / Svenska Dagbladet
